Administrative Services Division

The Administrative Services Division has five areas of service, Records, Property and Evidence, Technical Support, Crime Analysis, and Fiscal.

The Records Department provides criminal information to law enforcement agencies and the public in order to aid in an investigation and comply with the customer's right to know. The Records unit collects and stores crime reports, crime data and other documents to provide to the general public and the various components of the criminal justice system. Police records functions include archiving reports, gathering crime statistics, storing non-criminal and criminal records, processing requests, and other materials. Special duties include providing information in compliance with public records law, and providing auto releases for towed vehicles.

Property and Evidence is responsible for receiving, processing, accounting for and warehousing the property and evidence received by the department. Property and Evidence also works closely with the criminal justice community in order for the court process to be carried out. Property and Evidence also disposes of property as prescribed by law.

Technical Support and Crime Analysis units are responsible for providing information and assistance to police officers, investigators and the community through local and wide area networks, computerized police department systems and regional criminal justice systems. Crime Analysis provides useful information to aid police personnel in crime prevention. Crime analysis identifies and analyzes methods of operations of individual criminals, providing crime pattern recognition and providing analysis of data from various criminal justice databases. Crime analysis also provides estimates of future crime trends and assists in the identification of enforcement priorities.

Fiscal coordinates and monitors the annual budget; facilitates the acquisition of goods and services; processes accounts payable, and accounts receivable; applies for and administers grants and contracts; and manages the alarm program. The unit also prepares, controls, and monitors daily financial activities, and provides fiscal reports on Department's operations and resources. The unit monitors many activities for compliance, including adherence to the City's purchasing policies, travel expenses, use of City credit cards, and contract-grant compliance.
