Lieutenant Edward Gluhan is a Watsonville native. His family, of Slavic descent, has lived in Watsonville for four generations, arriving in Watsonville in 1895. They have a significant history of local public service; an uncle became our fire chief in 1924, another uncle became Watsonville's Mayor in 1959, and two other family members have been Watsonville police officers.Lieutenant Edward Gluhan.

He has 30 years of experience in the field of Law Enforcement, all with the Watsonville Police Department. This career began in 1979 when he joined the ranks of the Watsonville Police Cadets. Later that year he was sworn in as a Reserve Watsonville Police Officer, and in the spring of 1980, he was hired as a full-time Watsonville Police Officer. In 1988 he was promoted to sergeant.

Ed has experienced a wide variety of assignments, serving through the ranks as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Traffic Sergeant, and was promoted to lieutenant in 2006. His assignments have included field training, SWAT, street narcotics teams, frozen food/cannery strike team officer, multiple homicide investigations as an investigator, and motorcycle traffic enforcement. He has been a past coordinator of the reserve officer program, a past and again current coordinator of the department's field training program, and has conducted a number of internal affairs investigations. He is currently assigned as the department's patrol commander, managing all of the department's patrol officers and patrol sergeants. He is also responsible for management of the field training program, which trains new officers as they prepare for solo officer assignments.

He attended Moreland Notre Dame Academy in Watsonville and is a Watsonville High School graduate. He received his Associate of Arts degree in Administration of Justice from Cabrillo College and has also attended Gavilan College. Lieutenant Gluhan is also a 1994 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
