R.O.P. Santa Cruz County Regional Occupation Program
This program is a public safety academy sponsored and staffed by the Watsonville Police Department for high school students interested in law enforcement. The Pajaro Valley Unified School District is a partner in this program.
Students learn the basics of law enforcement including a working knowledge of state and federal laws and varied segments of the judicial system. The course of study includes: historical survey of American police agencies, with emphasis on California law enforcement; philosophy of origin of crime and social impact on society; development of criminal justice system, current trends and its relevance to local law enforcement; hiring and testing processes for positions in law enforcement; laws of arrest, search and seizure laws; court process; penal code and vehicle code - what constitutes a crime; child abuse and related offenses; drug and alcohol abuse and related offenses; participation in a Ride-A-Long program with a local law enforcement agency.
