T.A.C.S. - Truancy Abatement, Crime Suppression
Watsonville police officers (day watch) are responsible for contacting school age children who are seen in the community during school hours. If the officer determines that the child is supposed to be in school the officer will transport the child to a school office. The Truancy Abatement Crime Suppression (TACS) program not only assists school district officials, but also provides law enforcement with a system to reduce the potential for crime in the community. The second component of this program is the School Attendance Review Board (S.A.R.B.). Board members meet with truant children and their parents to discuss the problems that cause the child not to attend school. Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance, Inc., the Pajaro Valley Unified School District and P.V.U.S.D. Child Welfare and Attendance Office are partners in this program.
