Lieutenant Terry Traub was born and raised in Oregon. After graduating high school, he served 6 years in the United States Marine Corps. In 1988, he and his wife arrived in the Santa Cruz County area. His family has been members of the Watsonville Community since 1993.

Terry has 23 years of Law Enforcement experience, the past 14 years with the Watsonville Police Department. His career began in 1988, with the Scotts Valley Police Department. In January of 1997, he joined the ranks of the Watsonville Police Department. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2001.

Terry has training, knowledge, and experience from several different Law Enforcement assignments. He has served as a Patrol Officer, Motor Officer, SWAT Team Member, Detective, Training Officer, Gang Task Force Officer, and an Agent with the Santa Cruz County Narcotics Enforcement Team. He went on to serve as a Patrol Sergeant, and Detective Sergeant. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2011.

Terry is currently assigned as the Department's Operations Support Services Commander. He manages the Traffic Unit, Gang Unit, School Resource Officers, and the Parking Enforcement Officers. Additionally, he manages the Community Services Division. This area includes Guest Speaker Requests, Ride-a-long program, Special Events, and Community Partnerships and Problem Solving.

Terry has attended North West College, Lane Community College, and currently attending Cabrillo College. He is completing his final classes to obtain his Associate of Arts degree in Administration of Justice. He has attended numerous California Police Officer Standards and Training certified courses.

Terry and his family have been very active throughout the community. He was an assistant varsity football coach for four years. He has also coached local little league baseball, YMCA basketball, and NFL flag football teams. He has volunteered and assisted in several outreaches both through his church and the community. His wife volunteers her time as the Master Instructor for the Police Activities League Tae Kwon Do program. Two of his children also participate and are instructors in the PAL Tae Kwon Do program. He has a son who is very talented in the area of the Performing Arts. His son has participated in several local school, community and church productions, as well as on internet sites.
